One of Martinich & Carran’s major projects for 2021 was to paint a series of murals in the Children’s Ward at the Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Sunshine, Melbourne.
We were thrilled to be selected for the commission as this project is totally aligned with our passion for public art, creating site specific artworks and transforming spaces.
The murals are a collaborative work. We wanted to create an artwork that was quite immersive to the viewer. Using striking luminous colours and bold expressive brushstrokes, with birds integrated through the work to give an identifiable and welcoming element to the work.
The artwork offers lightness to the clinical environment of the hospital. A moment of distraction from what children are experiencing in treatment, as well as their parents and carers, and also importantly, hospital staff.
As an extension to this project we have created three prints to raise funds for the hospital; Blue Wren, Pink Robin and Emu Wren. These are derived from the wall murals that we painted for the Children’s Ward. They will be available in 3 sizes; A3 $140.00, A2 $220.00 and A1 $350.00
10% of all sales of these prints will go directly to the Western Health Foundation.
